Chase Country Christmas Committee: October 2023 – January 2025
Volunteering with the Chase Country Christmas Committee gave me a chance to help create joyful and inclusive community events for families. I helped plan and run activities like cookie decorating, craft stations, and games, all of which helped me develop strong organizational and teamwork skills. Being part of the behind-the-scenes work for a large celebration taught me how important community connection and collaboration are. I enjoyed seeing how excited the children were and knowing I played a part in that. This experience reminded me how meaningful seasonal traditions can be and how much children benefit from creative, hands-on experiences.
TRU Computer Science Board: September 2021 – April 2023
Serving on the TRU Computer Science Board helped me grow as a leader and communicator. I represented student voices in faculty meetings and helped plan events that supported learning and connection among my peers. It was rewarding to advocate for improvements and to help create a more supportive environment for students. Coordinating workshops and events also improved my planning, time management, and communication skills. I learned how to listen actively, speak with confidence, and build strong working relationships. These are skills I know will help me both in the classroom and in working with families and school staff.
Chase and District Museum and Archives: June 2014 – May 2018
Volunteering at the Chase Museum gave me a chance to support my community while learning more about local history. I helped with landscaping and cleaning, but some of my most memorable experiences came from assisting with public events, especially those geared toward children. I worked booths at seasonal celebrations and helped with the museum’s annual Strawberry Shortcake Tea, which brought together people of all ages. Through this role, I saw the value of preserving and sharing community stories. It also taught me how much planning, teamwork, and care go into creating events that feel welcoming and meaningful for families.
